Kindle Fire HD Announced For UK

Friday, September 7th, 2012

The Kindle Fire is finally making its long awaited debut in the UK and European markets, and will arrive in the brand new HD form. Whilst we still aren’t receiving as much love from Amazon as the US market is – who will be recieving an 8.9″ Kindle Fire HD also, along with 3G and 4G versions, on top of the original Kindle Fire – at least we’re starting to see small signs of affection.

Whilst this will be big news for many, with a high quality tablet coming in at a very affordable price of just £160, many will be thinking that it seems a little familiar. Still, it is a good device and the news of its arrival will no doubt be the music to many peoples ears.

Kindle Fire HD

The major advantage of the Kindle Fire HD over the Nexus 7 is for the same price you are getting 16GB, compared to the 8GB storage that the Nexus 7 has to offer. You’re also likely to get an increased battery life on the Kindle Fire HD – as Amazon are boasting 11 hours in their specs.

But enough of the specs – this is GearZap.com! And I’m pretty sure you’ll want to hear all about the Kindle Fire HD accessories that we’ll have to offer. Well, here goes…

First of all is our Kindle Fire HD case range, what most of you will be looking for! And it’s understandable; after all, who doesn’t want to keep their shiny new devices protected? Expect cases from all of the big name manufacturers – SD, Noreve, Tuff-Luv, Marware, Belkin and more. Not only will manufacturers be competing to get the best products to market, but they’ll also be racing to get them onto our shelves in the fastest time – after all, it’s often the first products that arrive with us at GearZap that are the most popular.

Next up on the protection priority list is our Kindle Fire HD screen protector range – helping you to achieve 100% full body coverage for your Kindle Fire HD. Our screen protector range is full of products that vary in style – such as anti-glare, anti-fingerprint, ultra-clear and more. The top of the range products even have all of those features rolled into one super-thin product!

Along with these two feature products is a full range of other accessories, including Kindle Fire HD speakers, a Kindle Fire HD car holder range and the best range of Kindle Fire HD stylus pens.

GearZap welcomes the ToughCover!

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

Whenever we pick up a new brand, we get pretty excited. One of the ways we have built up such a good reputation with our customers over the past couple of years is with the fact that we always have the best brands on offer before anyone else. We are excited to present our newest brand, the ToughCover, which is now available on our website.

ToughCovers provide excellent value for money, protecting your valuable device without any fuss. There aren’t any logos or wording splashed across their cases – keeping things plain, simple and stylish. The ToughCover will tightly grip your device and will ensure maximum protection for a minimal price.

ToughCover

The ToughCover brand is exclusive to GearZap.com, and we have a range of their products available for different tablets and eReaders.

The unique rotating case (pictured above) utilises a press stud style fastening to allow owners of the case to rotate their tablet quickly and easily between portrait and landscape orientations. There are also grooves in the case that allows you to angle your screen to the perfect degree, in both orientations, allowing tablet users to be comfortable at all times – whether typing, browsing or playing. The rotating style is available as a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus case, a Toshiba AT200 case, an Archos 80 G9 case, an Archos 101 G9 case, an Acer Iconia A200 case and an Asus Transformer Prime case. Cases for more tablets will be made available in the future.

Also available currently from ToughCover is a book style case with a front cover which folds back into a stand. For some tablets/eReaders, the case again features grooves for multi-level viewing, however this isn’t present on all designs. Whilst the book case doesn’t come with the fancy rotating design, the quality is still exactly the same high standard, and still comes at a minimal price tag. The book style case is currently available as an Archos 80 G9 case, a Sony PRS T1 case, an Acer Iconia A200 case, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 case, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 case and an Asus Transformer Prime case. Again, more devices are set to be added in the near future.

Kobo – Better Than Kindle?

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Little known manufacturer of eReaders and entry level Internet tablets, Kobo, have been whipping up a storm in the past couple of months after becoming exclusively stocked in a top UK high street store.

Kobo

The Kobo Touch, little known but loved by all owners eReader has been incredibly popular over the past couple of months, and has become Kobo’s flagship product.

Competing extremely well on price with the Amazon Kindle, Kobo offers a device with a similar specification, it is light, can store 4,000 books without adding any microSD cards (although, the device can increase its storage capacity by up to 4 times with the use of a microSD card) and in all honestly, looks a lot cooler than the Kindle.

The Kobo Touch, and all of Kobo’s other eReading and tablet devices, have a quilted style exterior which brings a breath of fresh air into the world of brushed aluminium or shiny plastic tablets. As well as looking great, the bumps and curves are great to hold on to whilst reading.

If you are looking for something more than the Kobo Touch, namely Internet and social network access, you may want to consider the Kobo Vox – which offers both an eReading platform and also basic Internet access. You can snap up a Kobo Vox for around £170, which means it is already competing with the Kindle Fire’s main USP before it is even released here.

So, for such high quality devices, why is the Kindle still so much more popular? Marketing. Many people don’t even know what an eReader is – but they do know what a Kindle is. Kindle is the household name, and with a little extra marketing push (OK, admittedly there were TV adverts running over the Christmas period) Kobo could be so much more successful.

As always, you can pick up a Kobo cover on our website. This includes a popular range if you are looking for a Kobo Vox case.

Official Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus Cases Now In!

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus snook onto the scene in November 2011, and hasn’t yet hit the height of sales that Samsung will have been expecting – however, we (and Samsung, or so you’d guess) are confident that it will take off.

The tech specs are there to make this an impressive tablet, for around £350 you can snap up an Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet with a lot to offer. What’s more, we now have a range of official Samsung cases – in stock – for the increasingly popular tablet.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus Clip-On Case

This official Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus case attaches to the edges of your tablet, and keeps it internally mounted to prevent any scratches or damage caused by internal movement. The rugged leather exterior is firm enough to keep your Tab 7.0 Plus away from the rigours of daily wear and tear, but is still soft enough to offer cushioning and feel great to the touch.

Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus case

This official folio style Galaxy Tab 7 Plus case opens like a book and allows you to hold your tablet in a much more comfortable two handed position. It has cut-outs for all of the ports and features on your tablet, leaving you access to every aspect of your Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus whilst it remains protected.

As well as these two official cases, we also have a range of other accessories and cases that will be coming into stock in the coming weeks.

Samsung Announce Galaxy Tab 2

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

Following on from the successes of a number of tablet releases, Samsung yesterday announced the launch of the Galaxy Tab 2. Not being content with the original Galaxy Tab, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and the Galaxy Tab 7.7, Samsung are now throwing in a fourth 7 inch tablet to be released in March 2012. The Galaxy Tab 2 is Samsung’s first tablet to ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and features a dual-core processor.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2

The Galaxy Tab 2 is slightly larger than the original Galaxy Tab, measuring at 193.7mm x 122.4mm x 10.5mm (compared to the 190.1mm x 120.5mm x 12mm of the original) and it has been given a power upgrade with a dual-core processor.

However, the original Galaxy Tab was released two years ago, and it will probably be more relevant to compare the tech specs between the Galaxy Tab 2 and the recently released Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus – so that’s what we’re going to do from now on.

The screens, 4,000 mAh battery, 3-megapixel rear facing camera and VGA front-facing camera are exactly the same on both tablets – so not much change there then. What’s interesting to note is that the Galaxy Tab 2 sports a 1 GHz dual-core processor compared to the 1.2 GHz dual-core processor of the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus; it doesn’t take a mathematician to work out that the newer tablet actually has less processing power. So, why would Samsung do this?

Breaking away from the trend of releasing improved tablets, Samsung may well have put their thinking caps on before designing this new addition to their tablet family. Are there any success stories that they could follow? Yes, the Amazon Kindle Fire – the ultimate wallet-friendly tablet. Is this the best tablet on the market? No, just great value. This could be where Samsung are heading with their latest release.

Stepping down their processing power will, or at least should, see a drop in the cost to the consumer – and as cost is one of the decisive factors for most people purchasing a tablet – may be great for Samsung. Also, it should also increase battery life on the tablet, giving a greater balance between price and performance that all manufacturers strive to achieve.

The Galaxy Tab 2 is set for a UK release in early March 2012, with worldwide releases to follow.

As always, you can grab your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 accessories from GearZap.com, such as a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 case or a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 screen protector.

XOOM 2 case

The Motorola XOOM 2 has finally started to take off in the way that Motorola would have hoped upon its initial release. Why didn’t it take off? Well, firstly I think people were expecting it to be a lot better than it actually is – although the bar was set incredibly high, and it is definitely a big improvement on the initial XOOM tablet.

Secondly, the tablet almost snook into the market – no big announcement (or, if there was, not a big enough announcement) and therefore there was not a lot of hype surrounding the tablet upon launch. Hey, the launch even surprised us – and not in a “oh my god, there is huge news from Motorola!” kind of surprise, more like a “oh…the XOOM 2 is already out?” kinda way. Either way, more and more people are snapping up the XOOM 2 now, and the hunt for the perfect XOOM 2 case began for us a few weeks ago. We’ve got some cases on their way in, unfortunately we have no official images for the products yet. Check back with us on that one.

PDair Kindle 4 case

As well as our exciting news regarding new tablet cases, we have also announced this luxury leather Kindle 4 case from PDair. Made from high quality genuine leather, this case will not only protect your favourite eReader, but will give it a touch of character and a hefty chunk of style and sophistication.

With the amount of tablets being released into the market at the moment, expect similar further announcements in the coming weeks. Also, expect news of an exciting new Samsung Galaxy Note case later on this week.
