Here are feedback from users who have installed Windows XP on their Asus Eee PC.
Although I’ve barely used the Eee PC with XP, I can already see that this is a good combo for me and my work habits. The custom build of Xandros Linux worked well for me and given that I can factory restore the device quickly, I like having both options. The benefits of XP? Fewer issues with device drivers for one; my new EV-DO card doesn’t yet have a Linux driver, but works fine in XP. More third-party and mainstream application support is available in XP also. Not a huge deal for me, but to others, that’s a must. - http://jkontherun.blogs.com/jkontherun/2007/12/microsoft-windo.html.
At this kind of price S$600, you cannot ask for more for the size and portability!!
Know what you are gonna use it for and you will really enjoy your EEE Experience..
Never try any programs as I’m doing it from a casual gamer point of view.
Web-browsing and Emailing is not an issue here definitely, except for the screen res of coz.
Live Messenger works just as well, but had to use mess patch to remove the MSN junks at the bottom, else the contact list too short!
Battery life shows 10% after 2hrs 10mins in XP desktop doing nothing, LCD brightness Max, Wifi on and connected to AP for 1.5hrs.
Screen saver on after 10mins, i move the cursor occasionally..
Therefore, estimated batt life is around 2.5hrs in WinXP with Wifi.
Official 3.5Hrs is with Linux OS and probably without Wifi. - http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=1762468
I have now installed Windows XP Pro on my Eee PC and while the unit’s power consumption characteristics are slightly better than they were under the standard Linux installation, it’s not as much of a gain as I’d hoped for. - http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/12/07/eb_eee_pc_with_xp/
If you haven’t gotten your Eee PC yet, Asus has officially launched an Asus Eee PC pre-installed with Microsoft Windows XP, so you don’t have to install XP on the Eee PC by yourself.
